Know your Kindle before you pick a format

Why image EPUBs need special treatment
A comic EPUB might carry pages at print resolution, far larger than the 1072 x 1448 of a Kindle 11 or the 1236 x 1648 of a Paperwhite 5. Left alone, the Kindle downscales them badly and lettering turns to mush. Re-rendering to the device resolution during conversion is what keeps small text readable.
Frequently asked questions
My Kindle is new. Do I need this at all?
Probably not. Recent Kindles accept EPUB directly through Send to Kindle (up to roughly 50MB per file, or unlimited over USB). Convert to MOBI only for an older Kindle that predates EPUB support.
What happens to a comic EPUB during conversion, exactly?
Each page image is extracted, resized to your Kindle model, and contrast-adjusted for e-ink, then rebuilt into a fixed-layout MOBI. It is a re-render, not a container swap, which is why the result looks right on the device.
Does this work for novels and text-heavy EPUBs?
It is tuned for image-based books: comics, manga, artbooks. A pure text novel is better served by a general ebook converter that preserves reflowable text rather than rendering pages as images.
Will a right-to-left manga EPUB keep its reading direction?
Yes. With manga mode on, right-to-left reading is stamped into the MOBI, so the Kindle pages through it in the original Japanese direction.
