KCC is free and open source. The official desktop downloads live on the KCC GitHub releases page, published by the project itself; that is the only place to get the desktop app.

Formats in, formats out
A ZIP archive of page images wearing a comic extension: the standard format for DRM-free comics and scanlations, and the most common thing people feed KCC.

One page size does not fit every Kindle
A Kindle 11 is 1072 x 1448 pixels, a Paperwhite 5 is 1236 x 1648, a Colorsoft is 1272 x 1696. A file built for the wrong screen gets rescaled on the device, which softens lineart, so the converter asks for your exact model instead of exporting one generic file.

On a Kindle Colorsoft, color pages stay in color while the conversion still resizes and sharpens them for the e-ink panel. On grayscale Kindles, gamma correction keeps shading and screentones from turning to mud.

KCC is a free open-source project. If the desktop workflow suits you, download it from the official KCC GitHub repository, MangaConverter is an independent hosted frontend for the same engine, not a replacement for the project.
What the desktop app still does better
Exotic edge cases, custom scripts, unusual output tweaks, offline conversion of huge libraries, remain desktop territory. For the everyday convert-and-read loop, the online version is faster to reach.
From download to reading
Kindle: send the EPUB via Send to Kindle or copy it over USB into the documents folder. Kobo: copy the KEPUB over USB and reading stats keep working. reMarkable: the profile outputs PDF, which the tablet opens natively. All three transfers are drag-and-drop; no companion software needed.
Frequently asked questions
Is this really KCC, or a clone?
It is the real, unmodified KCC engine (open-source, by Ciromattia and the KCC contributors) executed on our infrastructure. We say so openly, the output is byte-for-byte the kind of file the desktop app gives you.
Why use the online version instead of the desktop app?
No Python environment, no install, works on any OS including tablets and Chromebooks, adds a live page preview, and batches queue in the background. If you love the desktop app, keep it, this is the same engine for when you are not at your own machine, or want zero setup.
Which KCC options are available?
The ones that matter for manga and comics: manga (right-to-left) mode, webtoon mode, spread handling and shifting, border trimming, upscaling, stretch, gamma/contrast controls, two-panel view and more, all with preview.
What formats go in and out?
In: CBZ, CBR, CB7, ZIP, RAR, 7Z, PDF, EPUB. Out: MOBI (Kindle profiles), EPUB, KEPUB (Kobo profiles) or CBZ. The profile picks the sensible default; you can override it.
Why do comics need converting for a Kindle at all?
A Kindle does not open CBZ or CBR archives, and a print-resolution PDF squeezed onto a 6 to 7 inch e-ink screen gives huge margins, tiny lettering and muddy grayscale. Conversion rebuilds each page for the target display, which fixes all three at once.
EPUB or MOBI for a Kindle?
EPUB. Amazon removed MOBI support from Send to Kindle in 2022, and EPUB works across every current transfer path. The Kindle profiles here output EPUB by default.
Does it cost anything?
The free tier covers several conversions per month. Heavy users can upgrade, that is what pays for the servers the conversions run on.
Is it safe to upload my comics here?
Your files are processed by the same open-source engine anyone can audit on GitHub, nothing installs on your machine, and uploads auto-delete after 24 hours. If you prefer your files never leave your hardware at all, the desktop app and the self-hosted option below both exist; we link them openly.
What are the size and batch limits?
Up to 20 files per batch, up to 1GB per file and up to 1000 pages per file on the free tier. That covers thick omnibus volumes; batches queue automatically and convert in sequence, so you can drop a whole series in at once.
Does converting reduce image quality?
Pages are resized to your device profile’s exact screen resolution, which is precisely what makes them sharp on e-ink: a page built for the panel renders at native sharpness, a page merely scaled down by the device comes out muddy. Contrast and gamma are tuned for e-ink greyscale, and the live preview shows you the converted screentones and spreads before you download, so quality is something you verify, not something you take on faith.
How do I get the converted file onto my Kindle?
Convert to EPUB with your Kindle profile, then use the Send to Kindle app, website or email address, or copy the file into the Kindle’s documents folder over USB. Email delivery rejects files over about 50MB (checked August 2026), so USB is the safer route for long volumes. Older Kindles from before the 2022 format switch take MOBI over USB instead.
Will my manga still read right-to-left?
Yes, turn on manga mode before converting and page turns run right-to-left on the device, exactly as the desktop app does it. The reading direction is baked in during conversion and cannot be fixed afterwards, which is why the option sits next to the profile picker rather than buried in an advanced menu.
Does it work on phones, tablets and Chromebooks?
Yes. The interface is a normal web page, so anything with a browser converts: iPhone, Android, iPad, Chromebook, or a work machine where you cannot install software. The processing runs on our servers, so a phone converts a 500-page volume exactly as fast as a desktop does.
Can I self-host it?
Yes. The hosted stack is published as kcc-cloud on GitHub, so you can run the same browser interface and the same engine on your own machine. The version here adds the maintained servers, the queue and the free tier; the code is the same.
