Frequently asked questions
Why do my comics look grey on Kindle?
A scan that never used pure black or pure white looks flat everywhere, and e-ink cannot mask it with backlight the way a phone screen does. The tones sit in the middle of the range, so the page reads as grey. Correcting the contrast pushes the darks down and the lights up again.
What is the difference between the two corrections?
Auto level rebalances each page so its darkest tone becomes true black and its lightest becomes true white. Auto contrast then widens the spread between them. Together they take a flat scan and give it depth. This page presets both.
Will it crush detail in the shadows?
The correction is automatic and measured per page, so it lifts the range without flattening the midtones. If a specific volume is already high-contrast, you can turn the correction off before converting.
Does it help colour pages too?
The contrast correction is aimed at the tonal range and helps greyscale scans most. Colour pages are handled by the colour options instead, and you can combine them.
