Spy x Family on a Kindle, Kobo or reMarkable

Spy x Family is a manga series that reads right to left, 17 volumes so far, with more coming. In the files people bring here, a volume of Spy x Family runs about 196 pages and about 100 MB. Dropped straight onto an e-reader, a volume that size usually goes wrong in one of two ways: a CBR shrinks the whole print page down to fit a six inch screen, or the pages turn the wrong way and the panels arrive out of order. Neither is the reader's fault. The file was built for a different page.

This page rebuilds those volumes for the panel you actually own. Every page is re-rendered at your device's exact pixel count instead of being downscaled by the device, the print margins come off so the art fills the screen, the contrast is lifted so e-ink greys do not swallow the linework, double-page spreads are split or rotated, and the reading direction is written into the file so the back cover is the front, the rightmost panel comes first, and a tap on the left edge moves you forward. Most people converting Spy x Family here take the output as EPUB, which every current Kindle, Kobo and reader app accepts.

We do not host, supply or sell Spy x Family, and there is nothing to download from here: this is a converter for files you already have, whether that is a purchased volume you exported, your own scan, or a backup of a book on your shelf.

How to convert Spy x Family for a Kindle, Kobo or reMarkable

  1. Drop in your Spy x Family volumes

CBR is what most Spy x Family uploads arrive as, and CBR is a RAR archive of page images, unpacked here the same way a CBZ is. CBZ, CBR, ZIP, RAR, 7Z, PDF and EPUB all work, up to 1GB and 1000 pages per file and 20 files per batch, so a volume of 196 or so pages is one file and a run of them is a queue.

  2. Right to left is already set

This page boots the studio with the Manga preset and reading order set right to left, which is how Spy x Family was drawn, so the back cover is the front, the rightmost panel comes first, and a tap on the left edge moves you forward. Margin cropping, the contrast pass and spread handling are armed too. Every one of them stays a switch you can change.

  3. Pick your device

Each current Kindle, Kobo and reMarkable has its own profile that builds pages at that panel's real pixel count: 1072 by 1448 on a Kindle 11 or Kobo Clara, 1236 by 1648 on a Paperwhite, 1404 by 1872 on a Kobo Elipsa, 1860 by 2480 on a Kindle Scribe. For a Boox, a PocketBook or anything not listed, choose Custom conversion and type the panel size in pixels.

  4. Check one volume, then convert the set

The preview renders real pages at the device size, which is the moment to confirm the smallest dialogue and the darkest panels are legible before you commit a run. Convert, then download or pick the files up on the reader itself over Wi-Fi from your Reader Shelf. Files auto-delete after 24 hours.

What this cannot do

We do not host, supply or sell Spy x Family, and there is nothing to download from here: this is a converter for files you already have, whether that is a purchased volume you exported, your own scan, or a backup of a book on your shelf. It also does not translate, redraw, colourise or clean up a bad scan: a blurry page converts into a blurry page at the right size. And a page that is small and dense on paper is still small on a six inch panel, because cropping only reclaims the margins.

Reading direction, and why it is set for you

Spy x Family reads right to left, so the back cover is the front, the rightmost panel comes first, and a tap on the left edge moves you forward. That order is written into the converted file rather than left to a device setting, which means it holds on a Kindle, a Kobo and a reMarkable alike and does not reset when you sideload the next volume. If you would rather read it the other way, the switch is there.

Large volumes, and what to do about them

At around 100 MB and 196 pages a volume, Spy x Family is at the heavy end of what people convert here. Nothing breaks, but two things are worth knowing: the per-file ceiling is 1GB and 1000 pages, and the upload takes longer than the conversion does. If a file is over the line, split it into two and convert both, or drop the JPEG quality a little, which costs less visible detail on black and white art than people expect.

Frequently asked questions

Can you read Spy x Family on a Kindle?

Yes, and on a Kobo or a reMarkable. The catch is the file, not the device: a CBR volume opened directly keeps its print proportions and its margins, so the art ends up small, and the page order runs the wrong way for a right to left book. Converted with your model's profile, each page is rebuilt at the panel's own pixel count with right to left turns written in, and it reads the way it was drawn. The interior art is black and white, which is the best possible case for e-ink: the panel is greyscale anyway, so nothing is lost in the translation and a plain Paperwhite or Clara shows the pages as well as a colour screen would.

Where do I get the volumes of Spy x Family?

Not from here, and we will not point you anywhere either. We do not host, supply or sell Spy x Family, and there is nothing to download from here: this is a converter for files you already have, whether that is a purchased volume you exported, your own scan, or a backup of a book on your shelf. If you own the volumes digitally, export or back them up from wherever you bought them; if you own them on paper and have scanned them, those scans convert exactly the same way.

Which output format should I pick for Spy x Family?

Most people converting it here pick EPUB, which every current Kindle, Kobo and reader app accepts. The short version for the other devices: EPUB for a current Kindle and for Send to Kindle, MOBI for an older Kindle, KEPUB for a Kobo, PDF for a reMarkable, and CBZ if you want the cleaned page images to read in a different app.

How long does the whole run of Spy x Family take to convert?

There are 17 volumes so far, with more coming, and 17 volumes at that size is about 1.7 GB of source files and roughly 3,332 pages. Twenty files go into a batch, so the practical approach is to queue a batch, let it run, and start the next one; the queue keeps your settings between batches, so you pick the device and the direction once rather than per volume. At this volume size the upload is the slow part rather than the conversion.

Will the art survive on an e-ink screen?

The interior art is black and white, which is the best possible case for e-ink: the panel is greyscale anyway, so nothing is lost in the translation and a plain Paperwhite or Clara shows the pages as well as a colour screen would. The two settings that decide the rest are the contrast pass, which pushes e-ink greys towards real black and white so thin lines and screentone survive, and whether the page is upscaled to the panel or left for the device to shrink. The preview shows the actual pixels at the actual size, so you can judge a dense page yourself rather than take our word for it.

Anything specific to Spy x Family I should know?

The English volumes have been running about one behind the Japanese ones, so a set that looks complete in one language is a volume short of the other. The run is also still going, which means a full-series conversion is worth redoing when the next volume lands rather than treated as finished.

The page extraction, cropping, contrast and sizing all run on Kindle Comic Converter (KCC), the open-source engine built for putting image-based pages on e-readers. It is the same engine the desktop app runs, hosted here with a live preview and no install.
