Merge chapters into volumes, split huge files

Manga arrives at the wrong granularity as often as the wrong format: forty tiny chapter files that should be one volume, or a single 900MB omnibus that should be three. The planned split-and-merge tool fixes the shape before conversion: combine chapters into a properly ordered volume, or cut an oversized archive at chapter boundaries into parts a device handles comfortably. We are being straight with you: it is not live yet, so this page does not offer it.

Today the converter takes the files as they come, and the 1GB per-file limit means even most omnibus files convert as they are. Merging chapters by hand (unpack, concatenate the folders, re-zip) works too, and the result uploads like any CBZ.

What split and merge will do

  1. Merge chapters into a volume

    Drop the chapter files, confirm the order, and get one clean volume out, with the page sequence preserved across the joins.

  2. Split at sensible boundaries

    An oversized file would be cut at chapter breaks, never mid-scene, into parts sized for comfortable transfer and device storage.

  3. Flow straight into conversion

    The reshaped volume feeds the same pipeline: device profile, live preview, and an EPUB, KEPUB or CBZ built for your reader.

  4. Until then: convert what you have

    Chapter files convert fine one by one in the live queue, and hand-merged zips upload like any archive. The shape is inconvenient, not blocking.

Honesty first

Joining archives is trivial; joining them so pages, chapters and reading order stay verifiably correct is the actual work. The tool arrives here when that part works, and not before.

The live converter helps now

Conversion handles files up to 1GB each, 20 at a time, so most awkwardly shaped libraries can reach your device today, just with more clicks than the future version will need.

Frequently asked questions

Can I merge or split files here right now?

Not yet, and we will not pretend otherwise. The tool is planned. Today you can convert chapter files individually, or merge them by hand (unpack, combine folders in order, re-zip) and upload the result.

Why merge chapters at all?

E-reader libraries are built for volumes, not forty-file chapter runs: fewer entries, correct ordering, one progress bar per book. A merged volume also converts once instead of forty times.

Will the split preserve reading order?

That is the entire point: cuts happen at chapter boundaries with the page sequence intact, so part two opens exactly where part one ended. A split that scrambles manga reading order would be worse than no split.

Will you announce when it is ready?

Yes. When split and merge ships it goes live on this page and the tools hub links to it. You can vote for it on the roadmap in the meantime.

MangaConverter runs on Kindle Comic Converter (KCC), the open-source engine, for the conversions that are live today. Split and merge is a planned reshaping step in front of that pipeline, and this page will host it honestly once it works.
