Manga built for a Sony Reader screen

Sony left the e-reader market years ago, but the PRS-T1, T2 and T3, the PRS-650 and the Digital Paper tablets are still in use, and manga on them is the same problem as on any e-ink screen: pages need to be rebuilt at the exact pixel size or they arrive shrunk and soft. The planned Sony Reader profile puts those models in the device picker by name, so you choose the reader and the right size, format and margins follow. We are being straight with you: it is not live yet, so this page does not offer it.

What works today is the Custom profile: type the screen size of your Sony in pixels (the PRS-T series is 600 by 800, the Digital Paper DPT-S1 is 1200 by 1600) and every page is rebuilt for that canvas as a standard EPUB, which the Sony readers open natively. The planned profile removes the lookup step and brings the per-model defaults with it.

The Sony Reader profile is coming soon

This profile is planned, not live yet. Use the Custom profile with your Sony screen size in the meantime.

What the Sony Reader profile will do

  1. Pick the model by name

PRS-T1, T2, T3, PRS-650, PRS-950 and the Digital Paper DPT-S1 and DPT-RP1 are the models we intend to list, each with its real screen size behind the name.

  2. Get the right defaults with it

EPUB output, greyscale pages at the panel size, borders trimmed and spreads split: the same preset choices every listed reader gets, tuned for the Sony panels.

  3. Keep the full option set

A named profile is a starting point, not a cage. Right to left reading, contrast and cropping stay adjustable exactly as they are for a Kindle or Kobo.

  4. Until then: Custom dimensions

The Custom profile takes a width and height in pixels and does everything else the same way. For a PRS-T3 that is 600 by 800; for a Digital Paper, 1200 by 1600.

Honesty first

A profile is a promise about pixel sizes, and we add one only after checking the panel against a real device or its documented specification. Until that is done, the Custom profile is the correct route, not a worse one.

The live converter helps now

Every option on this site works with the Custom profile: trimming borders, splitting spreads, right to left reading and the live preview of each page at your Sony size.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pick a Sony Reader in the device list right now?

Not yet, and we will not pretend otherwise. Choose the Custom profile, enter your Sony screen size in pixels, and the conversion runs with every other option available.

Which format does a Sony Reader open?

EPUB. The PRS series and the Digital Paper read standard EPUB files, which is the default output here. There is no proprietary Sony container to worry about.

Which Sony models will the profile cover?

The plan is the PRS-T1, T2 and T3, the PRS-650 and PRS-950, and the Digital Paper DPT-S1 and DPT-RP1. If you own another model, say so on the roadmap row and we will add its size.

Will you announce when it is ready?

Yes. When the profile ships it appears in the device picker and this page hosts it. You can vote for it on the roadmap in the meantime.

MangaConverter runs on Kindle Comic Converter (KCC), the open-source engine, for the conversions that are live today. A named Sony Reader profile is a planned addition to the device table in front of that engine, and this page will host it once it works.
