Split webtoons at the gaps between panels
A webtoon is one tall strip, and an e-reader needs pages. Today the webtoon mode cuts the strip where it finds a stretch of background, which works on a white gutter and goes wrong elsewhere: a dark backdrop reads as art and gets no cut, a bubble that crosses the only gap gets sliced, and a long panel is cut at a fixed height with an overlap you then read twice. The planned panel splitter looks for the gaps between panels instead of for background colour, so each cut lands between panels, every panel stays whole, and every page fills a tall screen. We are being straight with you: it is not live yet, so this page does not offer it.
What works today: the webtoon mode on the webtoon to EPUB page slices long strips into screen height pages, and for most series with light gutters the result reads well. The planned splitter replaces the cut logic underneath that mode; nothing else about the conversion changes.
Panel gap splitting is coming soon
This improvement is planned, not live yet. The webtoon to EPUB page runs the current webtoon mode in the meantime.

Find the gaps, not the colour
The splitter measures where the drawn content stops and starts down the strip, so a black gutter between dark panels counts as a gap the same way a white one does.
Keep bubbles and panels whole
A cut never passes through a panel border or a speech bubble. When a panel is taller than the screen, the cut falls at the panel edge and the tall panel gets its own page, scaled to fit.
Fill the tall screen
Panels are grouped so each page uses the full screen height instead of leaving a third of it blank, and nothing is dropped or doubled between pages.
Until then: today's webtoon mode
The live webtoon mode handles light gutters well. Preview the pages before converting and, for a strip it cuts badly, convert without webtoon mode and read the strip zoomed.
Honesty first
A splitter that drops a panel is worse than one that cuts badly, because you cannot see what is missing. The improved cut ships when it loses nothing on a test set of real series.
The live converter helps now
Webtoon mode is on by default on the webtoon pages, the live preview shows every cut before you convert, and the queue converts a whole run of episodes with the same settings.
Frequently asked questions
Can I split a webtoon at the panel gaps right now?
Not yet, and we will not pretend otherwise. The live webtoon mode cuts at background gaps, which is right for most light gutter series and wrong for dark ones.
What goes wrong with the current splitter?
Three things, all reported upstream in KCC: dark backdrops get no cut and come out as one squashed page, a bubble across the only gap gets sliced, and a long panel is cut at a fixed height with an overlap you read twice.
Will it work for manhwa and manhua strips too?
Yes. The splitter reads the drawn content, not the language, so any vertical strip gets the same treatment.
Will you announce when it is ready?
Yes. When the splitter ships it replaces the cut logic in webtoon mode and this page hosts it. You can vote for it on the roadmap in the meantime.
MangaConverter runs on Kindle Comic Converter (KCC), the open-source engine, and today's webtoon mode is KCC's own splitter. Panel gap splitting is a planned replacement for that cut logic, and this page will host it once it works.
