Why CBR needs more than a rename
Renaming file.cbr to file.cbz breaks it: the bytes inside are still RAR, not ZIP, and readers that expect a ZIP will fail to open it. Proper conversion unpacks the RAR, processes each page for the target screen and packages a genuine Kindle-ready file.
Print scans versus a 6 inch screen
CBR scans are usually stored at print resolution, far larger than a Kindle panel. Left unprocessed, the device downscales them on the fly with muddy results; the converter downscales once, properly, tuned for e-ink contrast.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need WinRAR or 7-Zip installed to convert a CBR?
No. The whole point of this converter is that the RAR is unpacked in the browser as part of the conversion, so there is no separate extraction step and nothing to install.
What is the difference between CBR and CBZ?
Only the compression: CBR is a RAR archive of page images and CBZ is a ZIP of the same thing. Kindles read neither, and both convert here the same way, so you never need to turn one into the other first.
My CBR is several hundred megabytes. Will transfer work?
Conversion accepts files up to 1GB, but Send to Kindle rejects uploads over roughly 50MB. For big converted volumes, connect the Kindle over USB instead: that route has no size limit.
