Why raw CBZ files fail on e-readers
A CBZ is just a renamed ZIP of page images. Comic apps on phones read them, but e-readers either refuse them outright or show print-resolution scans squeezed onto a 6 to 10 inch screen: huge margins, tiny dialogue, muddy greyscale. Conversion rebuilds each page for the target display, which fixes all three at once.
One page size does not fit all devices
A basic Kindle is 1072 x 1448, a Kobo Elipsa is 1404 x 1872, and a reMarkable 2 is different again. Pages built for one look soft or shrunken on another, which is why the converter asks for your exact model rather than exporting one generic file.
Frequently asked questions
Which format should I convert my comic to?
EPUB for any Kindle (Amazon dropped MOBI from Send to Kindle in 2022), KEPUB for a Kobo so reading stats keep working, and EPUB or PDF for a reMarkable. The device preset picks the right default for you.
Does it handle western comics or just manga?
Both. Western comics keep normal left-to-right reading (the default); the right-to-left manga mode is a toggle you simply leave off.
What about double-page spreads?
Spreads can be split into two pages or rotated so they stay readable on a single screen; the preview shows you exactly how they will come out.
Is it really free?
Yes. The converter is free to use and the engine is open source (kcc-cloud on GitHub) with a self-hostable version if you prefer running your own.
