A Kindle does not open CBZ or CBR at all, and a comic PDF that technically opens usually reads badly: tiny lettering, murky panels, wasted margins. The fix is not a generic file rename but a rebuild: every page resized to your Kindle's actual screen and its greyscale remapped for e-ink, so linework stays crisp and shadows keep their depth.
Because this page is about western comics, reading order stays plain left-to-right: manga mode is off by default and page turns work the way your comic was drawn. Send to Kindle size cap
Amazon rejects Send to Kindle uploads over roughly 50 MB. Thick collected editions often exceed that, so transfer big files over USB instead; USB has no size limit.
PDF sources
Comic PDFs work as input, but archive formats like CBZ usually give cleaner page extraction. If a PDF conversion looks off, try the original archive release if you have it.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need manga mode for western comics?
No. Manga mode stamps right-to-left reading into the output, which is wrong for western comics. Leave it off and page turns stay left-to-right, exactly as drawn.
What format should I send to my Kindle?
EPUB. Send to Kindle accepts EPUB and dropped MOBI back in 2022. MangaConverter can still produce MOBI for older devices, but EPUB is the safe default today.
My comics are in color. What happens on an e-ink Kindle?
They are converted to greyscale tuned for e-ink, which reads far better than letting the device flatten color on the fly. Inks stay sharp and gradients keep visible steps.
Can I convert a whole run in one go?
