Comic to Kobo

Kobo readers are the biggest e-reader family after Kindle, and they come with a quiet advantage for comics: KEPUB, Kobo's own flavor of EPUB. A KEPUB keeps your reading stats working and is drawn by Kobo's faster comic renderer, so page turns feel snappier than with a plain EPUB of the same book. Most converters ignore KEPUB entirely; this one makes it the default for Kobo.

MangaConverter turns CBZ, CBR, CB7, ZIP, RAR, 7Z and PDF comics into KEPUB files sized for your exact Kobo: Clara HD at 1072 x 1448, Libra 2 at 1264 x 1680, Elipsa at 1404 x 1872, plus Sage and Forma presets. Pages match the panel pixel for pixel instead of being scaled down by the device.

How to get comics onto a Kobo

  1. Add your comics

Drop CBZ, CBR, CB7, ZIP, RAR, 7Z or PDF files. They are unpacked in your browser, up to 20 at a time and 1 GB each.

  2. Pick your Kobo model

Choose Clara, Libra, Sage, Elipsa or Forma. Each preset knows the model's real screen resolution, so nothing is left to on-device scaling.

  3. Keep KEPUB as the output

KEPUB is preselected for Kobo profiles. It unlocks reading stats and the faster comic renderer; switch to plain EPUB only if you also read the file elsewhere.

  4. Convert and copy over USB

Download the KEPUB, plug in the Kobo and copy the file across. It shows up in your library like any store purchase. Server copies auto-delete after 24 hours.

Why not just copy the CBZ?

Newer Kobo firmware can open CBZ, but pages arrive unprocessed: oversized images get scaled on the fly and greyscale is left untouched. A converted KEPUB is sized and toned for the exact screen before it ever reaches the device.

Big omnibus files

Files up to 1 GB and 1000 pages convert fine, and USB transfer has no size cap. Long omnibus volumes just take a little longer to process; the live preview still lets you check pages first.

Frequently asked questions

What is KEPUB and why should I care?

KEPUB is Kobo's enhanced EPUB variant. On a Kobo it keeps reading stats working and rendering runs through the faster comic renderer, which makes heavy image books noticeably smoother.

Which Kobo models have presets?

Clara, Libra, Sage, Elipsa and Forma, each with the model's true resolution: for example Clara HD at 1072 x 1448, Libra 2 at 1264 x 1680 and Elipsa at 1404 x 1872.

Can I still get a normal EPUB instead?

Yes. EPUB, KEPUB and CBZ are all available as outputs. KEPUB is simply the best fit when the destination is a Kobo.

Does right-to-left manga work on Kobo too?

It does. This page is aimed at western comics, so left-to-right is the default, but switching on manga mode stamps right-to-left reading into the output for manga volumes.

The processing engine is Kindle Comic Converter (KCC), which despite the name has supported Kobo profiles and KEPUB output for years. It is open source, and the hosted stack is available as kcc-cloud on GitHub.
